1815 Open Weaving

Dates: Mondays, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Come to learn to weave, have company while you weave, set aside some time for weaving or just because you love Sammie and Clara! Now you don't have to wait for a beginning weaving class to get started weaving. Gain confidence dressing the loom and learning new techniques in a safe comfortable environment with people of like minds. If you are a returning weaver (you did it in the 80s and you haven't done it since), want to weave an 8-shaft pattern and you only have 4-shafts at home, took a beginning weaving class and haven't done it since, or just need a little freshening of your skills, this is the perfect place to come. We have six looms available for use. You may also weave during the week as long as the shop is open and you don't need assistance. Reserve your loom and block of time today!

You need to know: each loom is set up differently to accomodate different kinds of projects. These are not rug looms and, therefore, to preserve the life of these looms, we cannot allow rugs to be woven on them. Loom assignments are normally dictated by the project and will be assigned by Sammie. The $20 class fee covers both on and off loom time. However, if you have a project on a loom, you are responsible for the $20 fee whether or not you come to class. If you attend the class (even if you never get to the loom), you are responsible for the nightly class fee.

Required supplies and equipment: Tape measure, scissors, thrums for dressing the loom, rubber bands, electrical ties or something that can be used to attach the tie-on bar to the apron rod, shuttles, bobbins, heddle hook, reed hook. Make sure your tools are clearly marked with your name – just in case!

We will provide: the loom, raddle, lease sticks, tie on bar, bobbin winder, blinds for rolling on the back beam and at least one instructor to provide encouragement and help whenever it is needed.

Required Books: None

Prerequisite: None
