SUMMARY:Fair Isle Sweater 2026 via Zoom\, class 2 of 8
DESCRIPTION:Day/Date/Time: Wednesdays\, 8 sessions: 2/11\, 2/18\, 2/25\, 3/4\, 3/11\, 3/25\, 4/8\, and 4/29/2025\, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm ET. (This class meets via Zoom eight times.) \nDescription: Would you like to knit a Fair Isle cardigan that fits you AND have it in the colors and design of your own choosing? Then this Zoom class is for you! You will learn how to build a sweater from the ground up and much of what you learn is applicable to future sweaters of all kinds. This class is co-taught by Cherie Cornick\, TKGA Master Knitter\, and Joan Sheridan. This will be the fourth time they have led groups of knitters through the Fair Isle playground. Both regularly teach Fair Isle knitting locally and nationally and have students with finished sweaters around the US. With them as your guides\, the construction will make sense\, and the knitting will be a breeze because they inspire confidence. Believe it or not\, it is easier to knit a sweater that you design than to knit one from a pattern and try to make it fit you. When you build a pattern for you\, you know it will fit. Your pattern starts with the template provided and studied in class. Step by step\, row by row\, Cherie and Joan will guide you to your very own\, one-of-a-kind Fair Isle Cardigan. \nRequired Supplies/Equipment/Books: Alice Starmore’s Book of Fair Isle Knitting. Must have Stitch Fiddle\, Numbers\, Google Sheets or Excel apps. Must use Shetland yarn (Spindrift or J&S Jumper weight). Highly recommend that your Zoom connection be via a device with a larger screen than a phone. This class relies on PowerPoint slides and pre-recorded video. You will also need a standard knitting kit including  2.5 to 3 mm crochet hook\, tapestry needle\, stitch markers\, sharp scissors and smooth yarn or ribbon for holding stitches. Needles to suit gauge: generally US #1 to US #4 (2.25 to 3.5 mm). \nPrerequisite: Advanced beginner knitter or beyond that has successfully completed stranded knitting projects using Shetland yarn. \nPre-Class Prep: Look at pictures of Fair Isle sweaters to see what you like in terms of motifs and colors. Read pages 163-169 and 172-185 in the Starmore book. Knit a stranded swatch using the pattern provided OR one of your choosing that is roughly 50 x 50 stitches using the instructions on the swatch provided. This is an opportunity to test a motif and colors that you may want to use in your sweater. Measure the swatch before and after blocking. Your goal is a swatch that is roughly equal in stitch and row counts. The motif should be square. Use at least two colors\, but feel free to color the swatch in any way you choose. \nInstructors: Cherie Cornick and Joan Sheridan \nMaximum: 18 students \nFee: $295.00 \n
