SUMMARY:Spinners Breed Study Series Afghan\, class 2 of 9
DESCRIPTION:Day/Date/Time: Saturdays\, 3/28\, 4/25\, 5/30\, 6/27\, 7/25\, 8/29\, 10/10\, 11/14 and 12/12/2026\, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. This class meets 9 times.           \nDescription: Join us for a 9-month long exploration of different sheep breeds. We will spin samples from 9 different breeds of sheep\, highlighting a different breed each month. Students will use their handspun samples to either knit or weave afghan squares to create a final project representing each breed presented in this series. We will be working with natural colored combed top for each breed sample. Classes meet monthly for 3- hour sessions.  Class time will be spent primarily spinning samples\, creating a control card for each yarn\, and planning for afghan square. If the student requires knitting or crochet help with their squares\, Knitting and Crochet Help sessions are available at Heritage\, and are listed on the shop calendar. A pin loom help class can also be arranged. \nRequired supplies/equipment/books:  Other supplies needed are a 3-ring binder for samples\, index cards\, and measurement tools\, including a scale\, ruler\, WPI tool\, and ply angle tool. (Instructor will bring tools to class to share\, but it is helpful to have these for home use.) Optional: Knitting needles and crochet hooks in various sizes and/or a pin loom. \nClass fee does not include 4oz. fiber samples\, binder pages or handouts. A $30.00 materials fee is due to the instructor at the beginning of each session.  \nRecommended books for afghan squares: Learn to Knit Afghan Book by Barbara Walker;  200 Crochet Blocks for Blankets Throws and Afghans by Jan Eaton; and Pin Loom Squares: Techniques\, Instructions And 15 Projects by Jan Harrowe \nRecommended reference books (Not required): \nThe Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook by Deborah Robson & Carol Ekarius \nThe Field Guide to Fleece by Deborah Robson & Carol Ekarius \nThe Spinner’s Book of Fleece by Beth Smith \nPrerequisite: Must have  a working traditional or e-wheel. DESCRIPTION:Day/Date/Time: Saturdays\, April 25\, May 9\, 16\, 23\, June 13\, 20\, 2026 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm; May 2\, June 6\, 2026 from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. This class meets eight times. \nLet’s knit a sweater together! Caitlin Hunter’s Midsommar Tee is an excellent project for knitters of all levels and will be perfect for warmer weather. Knit from the bottom up\, we will practice some fundamental sweater making skills\, including: reading a pattern\, how yarn selection and gauge swatches help create your perfect fabric\, knitting in the round\, demystifying short rows\, placing stitches on hold\, pick up and knit stitches\, darning in ends\, blocking and anything else that comes up along the way. \nWhether this is your first or fiftieth sweater\, as long as you can knit and purl\, this class is for you. Our weekly meetings and homework assignments will keep you on track. The pattern is included in the price of the class and will be sent to you no later than one week prior to the first class. Please purchase your yarn from Heritage and have it wound before the first class begins. \nWe will meet on Saturdays for 1.5 hours to learn and knit together. For extra support you are encouraged to take advantage of our social knitting on Tuesday (6:00 pm to 8:00 pm) and Friday (6:00 pm to 9:00 pm) evenings.
