DESCRIPTION:Day/Date/Time: Thursday\, 9/11/2025\, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm\, with a break for lunch. This class meets once. \nDescription: Join in the fun of stranded color knitting. This is an introductory course\, but you should be at least an advanced beginner knitter and know how to knit in the round to benefit from the class. You will be introduced to the colors of Shetland – over 300 different colors of jumper weight yarn from the two biggest yarn companies in Shetland. This is the traditional sweater weight yarn of the islands. After a bit of practice in knitting with two colors and exploring colors\, you will begin work on knitting your own Fair Isle cap using a pattern that Joan developed to teach this time-honored technique. You have the option of purchasing the my First Fair Isle hat kit and being able to come to class with the ribbing done OR you can select your own colors for the hat in class and make your hat truly one-of-a-kind. You choose! Class fee includes yarn for practicing. \nRequired Supplies/Equipment/Books: Either purchase the My First Fair Isle hat kit from Heritage in the shop or online\, or purchase and print the pattern from our webstore or Ravelry. You will need US Size #1 and #3 needles to knit the hat\, plus your standard knit kit\, including scissors and stitch markers. \nPrerequisite: Must be comfortable knitting with “small” needles in the round. \nPre-Class Prep: If you opt for the kit\, speed things along by having the one-color ribbing knit before class. DESCRIPTION:Day/Date/Time: Sunday\, 9/28/2025\, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm\, with a break for lunch. This class meets once. \nDescription: Plain weave doesn’t have to be plain. When you mix in color in a certain way\, all kinds of exciting things can happen. Learn how to warp your loom to extract the magic in the colors. We will also discuss how to weave tidy selvedges and how to read a weaving pattern. In class you will warp for a set of towels using color and weave. At the end of class your loom will be warped\, you will have begun weaving and you will understand how to finish the pieces at home. \nRequired Supplies/Equipment/Books:  A loom at least 18” wide with a 12 or 12.5 rigid heddle. Spools of 8/4 cotton in three different colors. Optional: spool of 16/2 for weaving thinner hems.
