We will meet nine times between January and December 2025 to discuss each lesson in this year’s On-Line Guild offering. Videos will be watched at home and weaving will be done on your own. It is your responsibility to watch the video prior to class so you can engage in the conversation. This group provides you with the discipline to make the most of your JST Weaving School membership. This is the ninth year of approaching the video lessons from a group perspective. Those that have participated agree that it adds value to the experience. You will learn how to make usable yarn\, what makes a good yarn\, how to ply\, a little about different types of spinning fibers\, and basic wheel maintenance. \nRequired supplies/equipment/books: Recommended book: Spinning 101 by Tom Knisely. Start Spinning\, by Maggie Casey is also a great resource. Please bring scissors\, pen\, and paper. Fee includes spinning fiber and drop spindle to take home. If you already have a spinning wheel in good working order\, bring it for the second half of the class. This class explains what is important for you to know — how to match your body to a pattern or a pattern to your body. Among the issues that will be discussed are gauge\, short rows\, adjusting patterns and more. Yes\, there is math involved\, but it will be explained in an understandable way. By the end of the class you will have a “map” of your body that will set you on the path to knitting a sweater that actually fits! This class is designed for any level of knitter that has never knit a sweater or who thinks their sweater knitting could be improved. \nRequired Supplies/Equipment/Books: Calculator\, pencil and eraser\, a small ball of smooth\, light colored\, worsted weight wool yarn with US #7 needles\, ruler\, and two t-pins. \nPrerequisite: Must know how to knit and read a pattern. \nPre-Class Prep: Knit a gauge swatch in stockinette stitch using smooth\, light colored\, worsted weight wool and US #7 needles. Cast on 30 stitches and knit until square. Bind off loosely and wet block without over-stretching.
