Heritage Spinning and Weaving is the North American Fair Isle and stranded knitting headquarters with more than 500 colors of 100% Shetland and Norwegian wool,
Heritage Spinning and Weaving opened in 2000 because Joan couldn’t find weaving supplies locally. Where in recent memory there had been at least four weaving shops in the metro-Detroit area, the last one was closing up and moving away. We started as a spinning and weaving store, but quickly added knitting and crochet yarns, needles and hooks and notions.
We are proud to be part of Lake Orion’s historic downtown. Our building was built by the owner’s grandfather in the 1930’s and he operated a hardware store in it for many years. When it closed, a men’s shop moved in and that was replaced by a series of printing shops. We sublet from the last of the print shops for the first two years and now occupy all 3,000 square feet of the first floor and fill every bit of it with the yarn, fibers, tools and creative spaces needed for our fibery crafts.
Over the years our “Heritage Family” has grown as we have shared births and deaths, sickness and health, and many fiber tales. We hope you feel like “part of the family” from your first visit or virtual encounter.
