Day/Date/Time: Saturday, 1/31/2026, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. This class meets once.

Description:  Evidence of tablet weaving has been found and dated back to the Iron Age, found on burial ships in Norway, and is popular today. Often called “card” weaving in the US, this weaving style is used to produce a band that can vary from quite narrow (much less than an inch) to quite wide (more than 6 inches). Tablet woven bands are sturdier than plain weave woven bands because they have as many layers of thickness as there are holes in the cards. This class will be woven using 4 hole cards. We recommend the Schacht cards available at Heritage because of the helpful markings on the cards. Learn how to thread and weave the cards to make a short band using colors of your choosing. Tablet weaving instructions are not standardized, so we will also look at instructions in several popular books.

Required Supplies/Equipment/Books:  25 Schacht 4-hole tablets (available for purchase at Heritage), scissors, standard size inkle loom OR leather belt that fits around your low waist, belt shuttle.
