Day/Date/Time: Wednesday, 1/20/2027, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with a break for lunch. This class meets one time.
Description: Evidence of tablet weaving has been found and dated to the Iron Age, was found on burial ships in Norway and is popular today. Often called “card” weaving in the US, this weaving style is used to produce a band that can vary from quite narrow (much less than an inch) and quite wide (more than 6 inches). Tablet woven bands are sturdier than plain weave woven bands because they have as many layers of thickness as there are holes in the cards. This class will be woven using 4 hole cards. We recommend the Schacht cards available for purchase at Heritage because of the helpful markings on the cards. Learn how to thread and weave the cards to make a short band using colors of your choosing. Tablet weaving instructions are not standardized, so we will also look at instructions in several popular books. Tuition includes yarn and handout. There will be a one hour lunch break.
