Day/Date/Time: Saturday, 11/22/2025, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. This class meets once.
Description: Double knitting is more than a trick you read about in War and Peace. At its most basic, double knitting involves knitting with two colors at one time to create a positive and negative side of the work. It could be a hat, one sock knit inside the other as in War and Peace, bands to finish sweaters, garments, blankets, and so much more. In this class you will learn the basics — how to cast on, manage your selvedges and bind off for flat knitting. Your finished piece will be a hot pad. The cool thing about double knitting is that there is no “wrong” side and both sides look great.
Required Supplies/Equipment/Books: Students should bring needles in US Sizes #1 through #5. Most knitters tend to need a smaller size needle to achieve gauge, so come prepared with multiple sizes. For this size work I usually use a 24″ circular with longer tips (5″ rather than 4″). In addition, bring your usual knitting tool kits to include locking stitch markers, crochet hook or Fix-It tool, and scissors. You will also need two contrasting colors of Sinfonia (one 50 gm ball each).
Prerequisite: It is helpful to have knit with two yarns at the same time as in Fair Isle Knitting.
