Description: Join in the fun of color knitting. This is an introductory course, but you should be at least an advanced beginner knitter and know how to knit in the round to benefit from the class. You will be introduced to the over 200 colors of Jamieson Shetland Spindrift, the traditional sweater weight yarn of the islands and after a bit of practice you will work on knitting your own Fair Isle cap using a pattern that Joan developed especially to teach this time-honored technique. There is homework to be done before class, please read below and come to class ready to knit! Class fee includes yarn for practice knitting.
Required Supplies/Equipment/Books: Purchase a My First Fair Isle Hat kit. The kit includes all Jamieson’s Spindrift Shetland yarn required and the pattern. You will need US size #1 and size #3 16″ circulars and US size #3 dpns. (Alternately, you may use two circs or Magic Loop method of knitting if you are comfortable with these techniques.) Please bring scissors, stitch markers, a tapestry needle and writing materials.
Prerequisite: Must be comfortable knitting and purling in the round.
Pre-Class Prep: CO 144 stitches using main color and smaller needles, join in the round without twisting, and work 10 rounds of 2/2 rib. Leave on needles to prepare for stranded knitting.
