Day/Date/Time: Wednesdays, 1/18, 1/25, 2/8, 3/1, 3/15 and 3/22/2023, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm ET. This class meets 7 times; date of 7th class to be determined.
Description: Whether you have knit cables before or not, this class will be a learning adventure. Joan and Cherie’s students always gain confidence and come away looking at patterns and knitting with a better understanding. You will knit a vest designed specifically for this class. Including: discuss how cables affect your gauge, a bit about design, how to modify the pattern to fit a larger or smaller body, and so much more. You will be challenged in a good way and end up with a beautiful garment that will last a lifetime. Pattern will be provided.
Required Supplies/Equipment/Books: Required Supplies/Equipment/Books: Recommended yarn is Germantown, available here: https://heritagespinning.com/new/product-category/yarn/worsted/germantown/. One skein for swatching and the following to knit a garment measuring:
34 to 42′ – 6 skeins
44 to 50′ – 7 skeins
50 to 56′ – 8 skeins
Needles to achieve the gauge, start with a US 7 (see Pre-Class Prep). You will need two cable needles and stitch markers. Check out our new Coco Knits magnetic cable needles and stitch markers that partner with the Coco Knits Makers Keep and Makers Board (very cool!).
Prerequisite: Must know how to knit, purl and work from a chart.
Pre-Class Prep: Using the same worsted weight yarn you will use to knit the vest and US #7 needles, cast on 30 stitches. Knit using double moss stitch until square. Wash and block your swatch, and allow it to rest for at least four days before class. The vest pattern will be emailed to you with your class reminder. Print out the pattern and bring it to the first class.
Double moss:
Rows 1 and 2: (K1, p1) to end.
Rows 3 and 4: (p1, k1) to end.
Repeat these four rows to desired length.
