Description: If knitting a Fair Isle sweater is on your dream list, maybe this is the year! The finished project is a traditional, bottom up drop shoulder (or modified drop) cardigan or pullover. To keep class on-target, we will not be doing set in sleeves or yoked sweaters. Start at the beginning with gauge and fit. Learn the little things that make a big difference so that you end up with a sweater that fits and looks like a million bucks! Color selection will be done prior to class. If help is needed, Joan can help you in the shop by appointment. This is not a beginner class–you should already know how to knit with two colors at a time.
Required Supplies/Equipment/Books: Jumper weight Shetland yarn for sampling and knitting your sweater, pattern if not making your own, buttons if making a cardigan, locking stitch markers, some method of tracking your progress (magnet board, see-thru repositionable tape, Knit Companion), and your standard knitting tool kit.
Prerequisite: Must know how to knit with two colors in one row and be accustomed to working with color knitting charts.
Pre-Class Prep: Two options: 1) Select a published pattern, purchase the yarn, including enough to make a swatch. Knit a swatch in pattern that is at least 6” x 6”. Record unblocked and blocked gauge. 2) If you will design your own, knit a swatch in pattern that is at least 6” x 6” using your selected colors. Record unblocked and blocked gauge. Purchase yarn when you have settled on your colors.
