Description: There are so many aspects of Knit Companion that one project can’t use them all. The Knit Companion class will use Cherie’s Twisted Stitch Mitts as the project for teaching Smart Counters, Chart Templates, Chart Row Repeats, Reminders, Shaping Counters, and more. We’ll also be reviewing some of the features.

Required Supplies/Equipment/Books:

  • Two of the following digital devices: a Windows PC or Mac computer, an iPad or Android tablet, a smart phone. One will be used to connect to ZOOM, the other to work on Knit Companion. If a phone is one device, use it for ZOOM.
  • An internet connection.
  • The up-to-date ZOOM app downloaded on both devices.
  • The full version of Knit Companion with set up+essentials upgrade. The free version does not include the features we will be using. Download the free version from the Apple app store or Google Play for Windows, then upgrade to setup + essentials from within the program. To see what devices support Knit Companion, visit knitcompanion.com.
  • The pattern for the Twisted Stitch Mitts will be e-mailed to participants before the class starts.
  • One skein of Malabrigo Ultimate sock or any tightly worsted-spun fingering weight yarn. The 100 gram skein of Malabrigo Sock will make almost 2 pairs of mitts.
  • Needles Size US 2/2.75mm or needles needed to get gauge.
  • Usual knitting notions including a small size crochet hook (US C / 2.5 mm works well), 20+ lace-weight stitch markers, small tapestry needle.
  • Notebook and pencil or pen.

Prerequisite: This is an advanced-intermediate level knitting class. You must be able to read and follow a lace chart. You should have at least basic cable knitting experience. You will need basic computer skills like being able to download, save, and find files, and connect to ZOOM.

Pre-Class Prep: Download Knit Companion and upgrade to setup+essentials. Download the current version of ZOOM to both devices. Explore the Knit Companion website, be sure to read the FAQs. We strongly recommend that you create a folder on your devices for this project to keep all your digital files together. The pattern and notes will be emailed to you prior to class. Save this information in the directory you created for that purpose. Print it if desired. NOTE: Save the Zoom link in the email so you can find it each week.
