Description: Knitting a summer tee is a dream for knitters that want to wear their handknits all year round! The Leonie uses a large needle (size 11) along with a fingering or DK weight yarn, creating a cool and breezy fabric. This simple summer staple is so versatile, that I can just imagine pairing it with anything from jean shorts to a maxi skirt or even using it as a layering piece when it gets colder. Because of the large needles, this tee will knit up quickly, while also giving you experience knitting using the innovative Cocoknits Method, plus short rows and three needle bind-off. Required supplies and pattern are NOT included in the class fee.

Required supplies/equipment/books:

  • 500-1090 yards of yarn purchased from Heritage – the pattern is very flexible as to the yarn. We suggest any fingering, sport or dk weight yarns. For summer consider Sinfonia Cotton or Euroflax. For three season wear: Joseph Galler Alpaca and Malabrigo Sock and Dos Tierras.
  • 40″ US #11 (8mm) circular needles
  • Stitch markers, scrap yarn or stitch holders
  • A copy of the Leonie sweater pattern, which you can purchase on Ravelry here, or through Heritage.

Prerequisite: Participants should be comfortable knitting in the round and be able to read a knitting pattern. If you are newer to knitting and would like to try this project, I’ll be knitting right along with you! I will be available at Heritage one hour before the first class to assist anyone that would like help purchasing the pattern, selecting yarn, or taking measurements for sizing.

Pre-Class Prep: Cast on the correct number of stitches for your size.
