Doesn’t this photo make you just want to smile? This is Christa at the fashion show at Castle Farms. This year we took a different perspective with the show and featured designers and their work. With a carefully tuned script in hand, Stacey told the story of the designers and their pieces. This is a photo of our Coloring Book Shawl. This year’s festival was the best ever in many ways: the weather could not have been better, attendance was up, and everything went really smoothly. I also announced that I was stepping back a little from my festival duties to focus more on other endeavors. Mark your calendar for next year: the last weekend in July, July 25 & 26. Do come – it is a lovely venue and such a pleasant weekend with great shopping and great fiber artists.
This was the first year I got to attend the FiberFest (always doing baseball downstate in the past…) and it was great! I missed the animals but saw most of the fashion show and the lovely creations. And, of course, the vendors! (I picked up some Up North colorway sock yarn from the Heritage Spinning booth, as well as the nifty booklet and a KnowKnits bag.)
Then, just last week, when I was at Dr. DeGroot’s office (in Petoskey) for an eye appointment, I overheard him talking to someone in the waiting room about their “dangling string.” Lo’ and behold, he finds a ANOTHER patient waiting for him (me!) ALSO with “dangling string!” Two sock knitters at the eye doctor’s! Of course, I had to check it out, and I was fortunate enough to meet “Granny Sheridan” knitting a very groovy sock out of your yarn. It turns out there was a THIRD knitter in the waiting room, and we all had a lovely conversation. Knitters connect everywhere!

I DID smile at Christa in the first picture even before reading the entry. All the shawls are beautiful, but that first one looks like a kite flying! Glad all went fabulously, Joan.
