Day/Date/Time: Sunday, 3/22/2026 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Agenda: Tea and scones from 9:00 to 10:00 am; Class Sessions from 10:00 am to noon and 1:00 to 3:30 pm; Prizes at 3:30 pm. Participants are on their own for lunch.
This event is a learning event with all proceeds donated to the Shetland Peerie Makker program that teaches youngsters in Shetland to knit. Led by volunteers, children learn during after school programs. Our donation helps keep this tradition alive in a very real way. Meanwhile, on this side of the ocean, we will be learning, too.
We have options for those that would like to learn to knit in the Fair Isle style, those that would like to step up their game knitting button bands and buttonholes for cardigans, and those who want to fine tune their understanding of color interaction. There will also be goodie bags for each participant, and even a few door prizes. 100% of your tuition/contribution is forwarded directly to Shetland to support the SPM program.

Introduction to Fair Isle: Participants will learn how to knit with two colors at one time and make a headband. There is homework prior to class and you will need two contrasting colors of jumper weight yarn prior to the event. Yarn is not included in the fee, but handouts are. Limited to 7.
Mitered Corner Button Band and Buttonholes in Corrugated Ribbing: Participants will learn how to turn a mitered corner from the button band to the neck band for a cardigan sweater. In addition, participants will learn to make two buttonholes that take in the complex nature of corrugated ribbing. There is homework prior to this class. You will need four colors of jumper weight Shetland yarn: dark, medium, light, and pop color, prior to class to use for the homework and continue to use in class. A pattern for the swatch will be provided to registered participants. Limited to 10.
Fiddling with Color: See how changing the color order can make a real difference in Fair Isle knitting. Also discussed will be tension, sizing hats by changing needle-size, the possibility of using twined knitting instead of corrugated ribbing and undoubtedly more. We will be working with the colors and pattern for Joan’s Just Peachy hat. Pattern provided in PDF format at no charge. If you’d like it in your Ravelry library, please provide your Ravelry name when you register. Limited to 7.
Volunteer Instructors: Mary Brandau, Cherie Cornick, Debbie Wood, Joan Sheridan. Mary, Cherie, and Debbie are all certified TKGA Master Hand Knitters.
Fee: $75.00 or choose to be a Super Peerie Makker supporter for $150.00
